Plugged In

The onboard charger and battery management system have been in the car for a while but until today I had no way of adding electricity to the car.  I bought a J1772 receptacle a while back but hadn't got around to fabricating a way to mount it to the car.

Tethered to the grid

It was obvious that it belongs behind the fuel filler door but it wasn't clear how best to mount it.  Instead of building an entire box inside of the fuel door area, I opted to reuse the original rubber boot that seals the fuel filler opening from the inside of the car.

The bracket for the plug comes down from the top

Brett make a "floating" bracket that comes down from the top of the fender line and holds the receptacle in the area where the gas tank neck used to be.  This turned out to be a very elegant solution that minimized fabrication and modifications to the car, while still being functional and clean.

Gusseted for strength with welded nuts for easy installation

It looks like it belongs there

Looks clean from inside the trunk too

Now I have a place to plug the car into the grid.  But I still haven't finished all the wiring so it isn't doing anything just yet.
